TEXAS
VINE
The Texas State Legislature passed HB 1572, which provided the
Office of the Attorney General with funding for a new statewide
notification service. Passage of this important bill means crime
victims, and other concerned Texans, have a single source of current
offender custody and district court information. VINE
(Victim Information and Notification Everyday) was selected to
provide automated victim notification services.
At the legislative level, the Texas State Constitution guarantees
crime victims the right to notification when their offender’s
custody or district court status changes. On a personal level, the
victim’s sense of safety, and willingness to take part in the
criminal justice system, are enhanced by timely and accurate
notification. A single, toll-free number will allow users to call
for up-to-date offender custody and court information. Callers will
also have the option to register for automatic notification when an
offender’s custody or court status changes.
